In 10 AC, during the First Dornish War, Ser Joffrey Dayne, led a Dornish army to Oldtown, razing the fields and villages outside of it.

Ser Davos Dayne became the third wife of Princess Nymeria, by whom he had a son.

Afterwards, House Dayne lost their royal titles, and became lordly vassals to House Nymeros Martell. Eventually, he was defeated, and sent to join the Night's Watch. Upon the arrival of Princess Nymeria in Dorne, and her subsequent marriage to Mors Martell, King Vorian Dayne was amongst those with whom conflict was sought, as the two looked to subjugate all of Dorne. King Samwell Dayne once sacked and burned Oldtown, the seat of House Hightower.

The Daynes were known to have involved themselves in several wars with houses from the Reach, most notably House Oakheart. They also became known for Dawn, an ancestral greatsword forged from the ore of the falling star, which would be held only by great knights of the house, who would be known as the Sword of the Morning. Along with House Fowler and House Yronwood, the Daynes were the most prestigious of all the petty Dornish kings. The heads of House Dayne then became the Lords of Starfall and held the title King of the Torrentine. Their founder is said to have raised the castle of Starfall at the mouth of the Torrentine, having traced a falling star to the spot, where he found a stone of magical powers. House Dayne track their lineage back to the Dawn Age. Edric is described as having dark blue eyes, whilst Ashara and Gerold have purple or lilac eyes. Ashara Dayne is described as having dark hair, whilst Edric and Gerold Dayne are described as having pale blond or silver hair. There is some inconsistency into the appearances of members of House Dayne. The current head of House Dayne is Edric Dayne. Their sigil is a white sword and falling star upon a lilac field.
